First City Monument Bank (FCMB), in partnership with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF), is celebrating a remarkable milestone: 15 years of the Priceless Gift of Sight programme. This initiative has provided free eye care to over 400,000 Nigerians, significantly impacting the lives of individuals and communities across the country.
Milestone Event in Calabar
The celebration was highlighted by a recent outreach event in Calabar, Cross River State. The programme offers a comprehensive range of services, including testing, optical services, surgeries, and disease management, aimed at combating preventable blindness.
“The intervention by First City Monument Bank and the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation is laudable,” said Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, wife of the Cross River State Governor. “Both organizations have demonstrated a genuine concern for humanity. We are pleased that thousands of people across Nigeria, including many from Cross River and the neighboring States, suffering from one form of eye defect or another, can now go back to their normal lives and pursue their aspirations.”
Impact and Recognition
FCMB’s Group Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Diran Olojo, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with TCF. “Our collaboration with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation has been instrumental in delivering critical eye care services,” he said. Olojo emphasized that the initiative aligns with FCMB’s broader commitment to social sustainability and equal opportunity for all. “The Priceless Gift of Sight addresses a critical need, as 90% of blind people globally live in poverty-stricken areas. Blindness often leads to loss of income, social isolation, and limited access to information,” he noted. “This initiative is crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty and blindness.”
Testimonials from Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries of the programme have expressed deep gratitude for the life-changing services provided. Thomas Olekama, who traveled from Lagos for the free surgery, shared his experience: “I haven’t seen properly in six years. I thank God, FCMB, and the Foundation for allowing me to see again.”
FCMB’s Commitment to Community Empowerment
First City Monument Bank, part of the FCMB Group, remains dedicated to making life better and empowering the communities where it operates. The Priceless Gift of Sight programme exemplifies the Bank’s commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians.
By addressing the critical issue of preventable blindness, FCMB and TCF are not only restoring sight but also helping individuals regain their independence, pursue their aspirations, and contribute to their communities. This milestone reflects the enduring positive impact of the programme and the continued commitment of FCMB and TCF to support eye health initiatives in Nigeria.
