Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE)
In a bold move to transform the education sector, the Kano State Government has announced plans to construct 130 new schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, made this revelation during the Kano State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee meeting in Kaduna. According to him, the initiative will see the construction of 75 Junior Secondary Schools and 55 Senior Secondary Schools across the state.
Dr. Makoda emphasized that, beyond infrastructure, the government is prioritizing digital literacy programs through AGILE and the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project. These initiatives aim to equip students with 21st-century skills and enhance learning outcomes.
He lamented the state of the education sector under the previous administration, citing dilapidated infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, and a shortage of qualified teachers as critical challenges that hindered quality education.

Discussions also covered the Kano Recovery Plan, the 14-point education reform agenda, and the roadmap for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 2025 to 2030.
In a statement issued by the Communication Officer of AGILE, Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, reaffirmed the commitment of all education parastatals to supporting the commissioner’s vision for a revitalized education sector.
This initiative marks a significant step toward ensuring accessible and quality education for Kano’s youth, particularly adolescent girls, as part of broader efforts to bridge educational gaps and foster long-term development in the state.
