In celebration of International Women’s Day, Nestlé Professional, the Out of Home business arm of Nestlé Nigeria, successfully hosted the 10th edition of its Business of Food workshop in Benin. Over the past three years, this initiative has empowered more than 2,000 food entrepreneurs across Nigeria, equipping them with essential skills to enhance operations, drive business growth, and boost income.
This special edition was dedicated to empowering women in the food industry, bringing together over 200 female professionals, including restaurant operators, chefs, culinary students, street food vendors, caterers, and grillers. Through free, hands-on training, participants gained practical knowledge in culinary techniques, menu development, customer engagement, and hygiene best practices—essential skills to strengthen their businesses and increase profitability.
Aligned with the International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerate Action,” the workshop emphasized the need for gender equality and the creation of sustainable opportunities for women in the food industry.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Funmi Osineye, Business Manager for Nestlé Professional in Nigeria, highlighted the workshop’s impact:
“Food vendors play a vital role in nourishing their communities. Over 10 editions, we have received numerous success stories, particularly from women who have experienced significant business growth. As we push for more opportunities for women to thrive, we remain committed to empowering them with the skills and networks needed to build sustainable businesses and drive community impact.”
For the first time in the workshop’s history, a panel discussion featured prominent industry leaders, including Princess Esther Eruanga, Deputy Director at the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and Dame Joy Ozigbo Ideh, Founder of Edo Caterers and Managing Director of 70’s Grill Caterers. They shared inspiring success stories and strategies for overcoming challenges in the industry.
A major highlight of the event was a special masterclass by celebrity Chef Vivian, Managing Director of Wedding and Things Events. Attendees gained hands-on experience in innovative culinary techniques, helping them refine their businesses for better service delivery and increased sales.
One of the participants, Adai Favour from Caviar Culinary Art Schools, expressed her excitement:
“I learned so much from the panel discussions. The insights from industry professionals will be invaluable when I start my own food kitchen in the future.”
By investing in women-led businesses, Nestlé Professional continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating an inclusive food industry where women can thrive and succeed. Through initiatives like the Business of Food workshop, the company is empowering the next generation of female entrepreneurs, ensuring they have the tools, knowledge, and connections to build flourishing businesses.
