To help people empower girls in the society, Firm Foundation Academy has trained 80 girls on skills accusation.
According to Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Adeniyi Adebimpe Omolara, has urged Nigerians to embrace self-discovery journey, skills acquisition and recycling to empower themselves and make the society a better place.
According to her, Firm Foundation Academy was set up to serve humanity with a vision to build and raise godly and global standard generations.
Omolara made this known during the third edition of Kiddies Mirror Girls’ event, which held with the theme, “Purity and Beauty to End Violence Against the Girl Child’, at Lagbasan, Ajah, Lagos State.
She taught the 80 girls some skills on handcraft, balloons and events decoration, recycling and hair band/hat making. The girls were divided into three groups according to their ages from five to 17 years.
Other skills learnt were self-discovery journey, sign language, public speaking and broadcasting, cat walking and dancing.
She advised the girls to love and accept themselves for who they are, adding: “You are uniquely created with treasures that should be tapped. You are the best of your kind. You should never look down on yourselves as being inferior to others using your circumstances, background, gender or environment as yardstick,” she said.
Adeniyi cautioned that girls should not be made to feel inferior to boys. “Change the mindset of the role of servitude, because it places an invisible barrier ahead of them, giving reasons they cannot achieve as much as the male child. It places a glass ceiling above them, which makes certain aims and dreams seem unachievable,” she noted.
She stressed that the society should stop placing hurdles before the girl child that make some goals appear unrealistic. “They should know that every child is a gift and blessing from God,” she added.
In her good will message, wife of Oba Ademola Elegushi, Hadiza, urged the girls to be studious and law abiding, adding that they should also use the vocational skills they acquired positively and be good ambassadors to the society.
A resource person at the event, Tusi Onoyona, spoke on etiquette and how the girls could comport themselves in public. She demonstrated to girls how to speak, sit, laugh and walk elegantly at home and in public.
Founder, Recycling Scheme for Women and Youth Empowerment (RESWAYE), Doyinsola Ogunye, charged the girls and families to care for their environment and communities to reduce climate change, flooding and global warming, and convert waste to wealth.
“RESWAYE has continued to reduce the waste on empty pet bottles, plastics, can bottles and cartons in communities through recycling, empowerment and wealth creation,” she noted.
