Applications are now open for the NomaMata Program, an initiative by Shecluded designed to empower women farmers in Northern Nigeria with agribusiness training, financial support, and market access opportunities.
The program aims to strengthen women-led agricultural enterprises by addressing key barriers such as limited access to finance, skills, and structured market systems.
Women Driving Agricultural Growth in Northern Nigeria
Across Northern Nigeria, women play a vital role in agriculture, engaging in farming, processing, and trading activities. Despite their contributions, many continue to operate at subsistence level due to structural challenges.
The Noma Mata Program is designed to bridge this gap by providing structured support that enables women to transition from small-scale farming to more sustainable and profitable agribusinesses.
Addressing Structural Barriers in Agribusiness
Agriculture remains a key driver of economic empowerment in Northern Nigeria. However, limited access to funding, technical knowledge, and market opportunities continues to restrict growth for many women in the sector.
The programme aims to address these challenges by equipping participants with practical skills and resources that can improve productivity, increase income, and support long-term asset creation.
Beyond training, the initiative focuses on measurable outcomes, positioning women not only as income earners but also as asset owners and community leaders.
Program Eligibility
The programme is open to:
• Women between 18 and 50 years old
• Residents of Northern Nigeria
• Individuals actively engaged in farming or agribusiness
• Applicants willing to fully commit to the programme duration and activities
This opportunity is best suited for women ready to scale their agricultural ventures and take advantage of structured support systems.
Program Benefits
Over a three-month period, selected participants will benefit from:
• Hands-on training in agribusiness, financial literacy, and digital tools
• Access to capital support and structured savings systems
• Improved access to profitable market opportunities
• Business development support to enhance productivity and income
At the end of the programme, five outstanding participants will receive grants to acquire farmland, enabling them to expand production capacity and increase revenue potential.
Why It Matters
From a development perspective, initiatives like this highlight the critical role of targeted support in unlocking the potential of women in agriculture. By improving access to finance, training, and markets, such programmes contribute to stronger rural economies and more inclusive agricultural systems.
Empowering women farmers also strengthens food systems, enhances household resilience, and supports broader economic development across communities.
