Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Femi Otedola hands over a block of a multi-billion-naira Faculty of Engineering complex to Augustine University, Ilara, recently. He also turned the sod of the second block of the N1.5 billion engineering complex.
Augustine University, Ilara, also known as AUI, is a private university owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos and located in Ilara, a town in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State. The university, which was approved on February 25, 2015 by the National Universities Commission, was in the news recently, when billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Femi Otedola, quietly handed over a completed block of a multi-billion-naira faculty of engineering complex to the institution. It was in fulfillment of his dream to add lasting value to the institution and for the training of world-class engineering students.
The event also witnessed the turning of the sod for the second block of the N1.5 billion engineering complex donated by the billionaire.
As grand as the event was, it was not publicised. Even few journalists, who came for the event, were told by some students still on the campus that they only noticed some personalities driving into the school premises. They added that the inauguration of the engineering complex was not announced, as far as they were concerned.
True to their submission, the event was attended by a few notable guests, who included members of the clergy as well as the Otedola family members, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Chief Gilbert Grant; the Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University, Prof. Chris Odetunde; the Matriarch of the Otedola Family, Lady Doja Otedola, the Alara of llara, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Chief Stephen Bakare, university deans, the Asiwaju lyamofin of Egbaland and Yeye Olofin of Lagos and BoT members, Dame Sena Anthony and Sir Egbert Imomoh, the university’s management and students.
