The fervent endeavour to advance girl child education in Kano State received a significant uplift as TORQ Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to societal progress, extended a helping hand to Government Girls Secondary School (GGSC) in Dawanu, Kano.
The GGSC faces daunting challenges typical of secondary education in northwest Nigeria, notably in Kano, and the recent donation of educational materials by TORQ Foundation represents a transformative step towards enhancing the quality of education in the state. This initiative not only aims to bolster educational standards but also encourages and champions girl child education in a region recognized as educationally challenged.
“The act of supporting girl child education is pivotal for various reasons, including religious, moral, behavioral transformation, and socio-economic benefits,” highlighted the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The consensus among various stakeholders, including parents, emphasizes the imperative nature of education for girls, transcending cultural or religious boundaries.
TORQ Foundation perceives these altruistic donations not only as an integral facet of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) but also as a profound stride towards fortifying education within a region striving to fulfill its Sustainable Development Goals for the current decade.
The northwestern region has witnessed the closure of over 700 schools due to increased Islamic insurgency activities, resulting in a significant number of children, particularly young girls, discontinuing their education. This intervention arrives as a beacon of hope in these challenging times.
Expressing profound gratitude, Hajia Sadia, the principal of GGSC, Dawano, emphasized the pivotal role of collaborations between governmental bodies and private entities in fostering educational advancement. “Initiatives such as this significantly contribute to the development of education in our state. Partnerships between government and private organizations are imperative in delivering quality education, benefiting the nation as a whole.”
Alhassan, the Vice-Principal (Academics), stressed the profound impact of the donation, envisioning heightened student engagement and attendance. “The enhancement in school facilities will undoubtedly encourage more students to actively participate in their educational journey. The school management and community are immensely grateful to TORQ Foundation for this invaluable donation,” he remarked.
Abiola Oladiji, the Marketing Coordinator for TORQ Commodities in West Africa, reiterated the organization’s commitment to community development and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal in education. “This initiative underscores our dedication to the communities where we operate and aligns with the UN’s goal of inclusive and equitable quality education, ensuring learning opportunities for all, regardless of their geographical location.”
TORQ Foundation remains resolute in its commitment to driving positive change and empowering educational initiatives, believing that investing in education today shapes a brighter, more equitable future for all.
