The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB), a national examinations body endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in December 2013 and formally established in April 2014, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Formed by a consortium of 10 partner universities and the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), led by the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the 10 partner universities include UNILAG, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), University of Ilorin, University of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Uyo, Federal University of Agriculture, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The Vice Chancellors, representing the partner institutions, serve as the governing board of the organization, alongside members such as JAMB, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and a representative of the Minister of Education. JUPEB conducts standardized A-Level examinations for candidates seeking Direct Entry (DE) admissions into universities at the 200 Level in Nigerian and foreign universities.
The successful completion of the 2023 Examinations marks a decade of uninterrupted and successful pursuit of JUPEB’s visions and missions. To celebrate this milestone, a series of events have been organized for the 10th-anniversary celebration. The first event is a media briefing that commenced on Monday, January 22, 2024.
On Day 2 (Tuesday), the focus is on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with plans to visit a physically-challenged home in Lagos to demonstrate support and care. Day 3 (Wednesday) features the Programme Directors’ Forum & Awards at FSS Auditorium, UNILAG, bringing together program directors from partner and affiliate universities for discussions on the way forward for the next decade.
The grand finale on Thursday, January 25, includes two sessions in the morning – anniversary lectures and awards at Tayo Aderinokun Auditorium, UNILAG, featuring the Guest Speaker, JUPEB Pioneer Chairman and former Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Rahamon A. Bello. Awards will also be presented to past chairmen and those instrumental to JUPEB’s approval and establishment in 2013.
The evening session on the same day is reserved for a dinner and awards night, acknowledging the founding fathers of JUPEB, board members, deserving past program directors, and staff. Since its inception in 2014, JUPEB has expanded significantly across Nigeria’s geo-political zones, boasting 104 partner and affiliate universities as of the last examination held in August 2023. The organization anticipates a continued rise in figures with the growing number of affiliation requests received annually.
