Afro Tech Girls Launches Resume Challenge to Boost Career Readiness for African Women in STEM

Afro-Tech Girls, a non profit committed to empowering African women in STEM, has partnered with VampAI to roll out a five week Resume Challenge, designed to help women transform technical skills into tangible career opportunities.

Over the past decade, Afro Tech Girls has trained more than 5,000 young women across Africa in areas such as UI/UX design, cloud computing, front end development, and data science. Despite their technical expertise, many struggled to effectively showcase their skills in resumes, portfolios, and interviews a gap the new initiative aims to close.

From a pool of over 1,000 past beneficiaries, 34 participants were selected for the inaugural programme. They received personalized portfolio reviews, career development tools, and interactive workshops led by industry experts, including Ope Odunlami and Prisca Anuolam, who provided practical guidance on building compelling portfolios and mastering interview techniques.

By the conclusion of the programme, 97% of participants reported enhanced confidence in crafting resumes and portfolios, while 72% said their overall career confidence had improved signalling readiness to compete in both local and global tech markets.

VampAI, which connects African talent to startups and companies worldwide, complements the initiative by making African professionals more accessible to global employers through verified talent, streamlined hiring, and cross-border payment solutions.

The Resume Challenge forms part of a broader collaboration between Afro Tech Girls and VampAI, encompassing mentorship programmes, advanced career bootcamps, and direct talent placement into startups and scaleups. Participants’ achievements are showcased in the ATG x VampAI Talent Showcase, offering employers a window into Africa’s emerging tech workforce.
