In a demonstration of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation (BATNF) achieved a significant milestone in community development and the provision of clean water. The foundation officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art solar-powered borehole facility, benefitting the residents of Avrugo Centre in the Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area (LGA).
This project, a clear reflection of BATNF’s dedication to sustainable initiatives, features cutting-edge components, including four solar panels, a robust 2.2Hp water pump, two 10,000-liter storage tanks, and strategically positioned taps across a 70-square-meter area.
By harnessing solar energy, the facility not only addresses the immediate water needs of the community but does so in an environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner.
Speaking at the event, BATNF General Manager Oludare Odusanya emphasized the inclusivity and sustainability ingrained in the project. He expressed pride in contributing to the well-being of the community, recognizing the pivotal role that access to clean water plays in empowering individuals, promoting health, and fostering economic growth.
The foundation extended gratitude to the Avrugo Centre community for their patience and collaboration throughout the project’s duration. In their statement, they emphasized, “The borehole serves as a symbol of progress and unity, showcasing the positive outcomes achievable when communities, government, and non-governmental organizations collaborate for a common cause.”
“The completion of the borehole not only signifies improved health and enhanced livelihoods but also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Avrugo Centre. The community is poised to experience strengthened bonds and a brighter future.”
BATNF also acknowledged the efforts of its implementing partner, Eco-lead Imperial Engineering and Global Resources Limited, for ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
