BUA has officially commenced the development of a 700-ton-per-day (700TPD), 45mmscf Mini-LNG Plant with a groundbreaking ceremony held today in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries. One of which was the Founder and Executive Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu. Others present were Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, NNPC Board Chairman Chief Pius Akinyelure, GCEO NNPC Mele Kyari, Authority Executive of NMDPRA Engr. Farook Ahmed, and several other prominent stakeholders.
At the event, Abdul Samad Rabiu emphasized the significance of this project. He stated, “This LNG plant, which we are breaking ground for today, reflects our commitment to energy sustainability. Once completed, it will provide a reliable gas supply to BUA’s captive power plants.”
“This will minimise supply downtime and enhance our production and manufacturing capacity. It will also position BUA as a fully integrated player in the energy supply value chain.”

Rabiu highlighted the benefit of the project for Nigeria. It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of promoting gas as a cleaner energy source. According to the agreement, NNPC will supply critical gas feedstock in exchange for a 10% stake and BUA will fully finance and drive execution. This partnership emphasizes the importance of public and private collaboration in delivering transformative results.
Beyond ensuring cost efficiency and supply stability for BUA’s operations, the LNG plant will contribute to Nigeria’s industrial future. Spanning approximately 16 hectares, it will primarily power BUA’s manufacturing businesses and supply gas for other domestic uses. More importantly, it supports the country’s energy transition initiative by promoting cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
