Nigeria’s top innovation competition is back! Applications are now open for the GTCO Squad Hackathon 2026, offering Nigerian tech talents the chance to build impactful digital solutions and compete for up to ₦10 million in prizes.
Organized by Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) in collaboration with its fintech arm, HabariPay, the hackathon empowers developers, designers, and entrepreneurs to create AI driven and fintech focused innovations that solve real world challenges.
About the Program
The GTCO Squad Hackathon also called “Take on Squad Hackathon” is a national innovation challenge bringing together students across Nigeria to design technology solutions for sectors including fintech, healthcare, commerce, and digital inclusion.
The 2026 edition is themed “Smart Systems: The Intelligent Economy” encouraging participants to build intelligent, data driven applications that improve how people and businesses interact with financial systems and digital platforms.
Prizes and Benefits
A total prize pool of ₦10 million is up for grabs:
• ₦5,000,000 for first place
• ₦3,000,000 for second place
• ₦2,000,000 for third place
Additional benefits include:
• National recognition and exposure
• Opportunity to showcase solutions to industry leaders
• Hands on experience using Squad APIs
• Potential career and collaboration opportunities
Who Can Apply
• University students in Nigeria
• Teams of 2 to 4 members
• At least one technical member such as developer, engineer, or data scientist
• Valid student ID required
• Each participant can join only one team
• Cross disciplinary teams are encouraged
What You Will Build
Participants are expected to develop innovative solutions such as:
• AI powered financial automation tools
• Predictive systems for transaction security
• Scalable applications using Squad APIs. Similar impact driven innovation challenges, like the iHack4SDG Hackathon, have also mobilized young innovators to build solutions aligned with sustainable development goals.
• Digital solutions to enhance financial access and inclusion
