Advancing Sustainability Through Plastic Recycling
In a strategic move to enhance waste management and promote environmental sustainability, The Coca-Cola Foundation, in partnership with TechnoServe Nigeria, has donated trucks to privately-owned plastic recycling companies in Anambra State.
The official handover ceremony took place at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka, with Dr. Felix Odimegwu, Anambra’s Commissioner for Environment, representing Governor Prof. Charles Soludo. The event highlighted the private sector’s commitment to sustainability and circular economy initiatives in Nigeria.
Supporting Nigeria’s Plastic Waste Crisis
This truck donation is part of the Plastic Recycling Programme for Southern Nigeria, formerly known as the Nigerian Plastic Solution Activity (NPSA). Spearheaded by The Coca-Cola Foundation and TechnoServe, the program aims to combat Nigeria’s plastic waste problem through innovative recycling solutions.
At the event, Dr. Odimegwu emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Soludo’s circular economy vision and urged private recyclers to collaborate with the state government to improve waste management.
“This initiative strengthens Anambra’s commitment to eliminating plastic pollution, creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment,” — Dr. Felix Odimegwu.

Building on Previous Sustainability Efforts
This donation follows last year’s support, where industrial generators, waste washing lines, and recycling scales were provided to private waste aggregators. These interventions have revitalized the recycling industry in Anambra, ensuring long-term sustainability despite the withdrawal of USAID’s support due to policy shifts under former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Beneficiaries of the Recycling Initiative
The following recycling companies in Anambra State received truck donations:
- Obicharis Multiventures
- OU Cintia Resources
- J Mandis Ltd
- WCO Global Concept
- Igwe Petrochemical
- Wastebox Services
This initiative reinforces the private sector’s role in environmental responsibility, fostering sustainable development and economic empowerment in Nigeria’s waste recycling sector.
