Dolly Children Foundation, a non-profit organization advocating for equal access to education, is ramping up efforts to reach more orphans and underprivileged children in Nigeria through literacy and empowerment programs.
Founded in 2009, the foundation has reached over 23,000 children through initiatives designed to improve learning outcomes, foster personal development, and support long-term academic success. At the core of its mission is a commitment to dismantling barriers to education, especially in low-income and rural communities.
At a recent stakeholder engagement session, the foundation underscored the importance of community participation in strengthening literacy among children. A key focus was its Reading Club initiative, which aims to cultivate reading habits in areas with limited educational infrastructure.
“Many children are unaware of their rights and the opportunities that education can provide,” said Mrs. Adedolapo Osuntuyi, founder of the Foundation. “Poverty continues to force countless students out of school. Our programs are designed to not only keep them in school but to expose them to a world beyond their immediate circumstances.”
In addition to the Reading Clubs, the foundation operates several support programs, including:
- After-school programs to provide academic support and enrichment
- Summer camps and educational excursions to broaden children’s exposure
- School refurbishment projects to improve physical learning environments
- Scholarships and tuition assistance, made possible through partnerships and sponsorships
- Mentorship and life skills workshops for children and young adults
The organization’s flagship Dolly After School Program remains central to its strategy, offering safe, structured spaces for students to learn and grow outside formal school hours.
With continued backing from donors and community partners, the Foundation says it aims to scale its programs and reach more vulnerable children across the country.
