In a bold move to address youth unemployment, food insecurity, and agricultural underutilization, the Federal Government has officially launched the Presidential Initiative for the Empowerment of Youth in Agriculture, also known as the Green Money Project.
The initiative was inaugurated at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), by Abiodun Yinusa, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Agriculture. Yinusa described the Green Money Project as a strategic national program aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential by engaging, empowering, and equipping the youth with modern skills and resources.
“This project aligns directly with President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security,” Yinusa said. “It complements the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s efforts, encouraging cross-sector collaboration to integrate Nigerian youth more actively into the agricultural value chain.”
Yinusa highlighted critical national issues—rising unemployment, widespread poverty, and food insecurity—linking them to decades of underutilization of Nigeria’s fertile agricultural sector. He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to elevate agriculture as a viable career path for young Nigerians.
According to him, the initiative will attract and train youth across the country, equip them with knowledge in mechanized and climate-smart agriculture, introduce digital technologies to farming practices, and offer hands-on mentorship and business support.

The programme will be implemented nationwide across select universities, youth development centres, and technical colleges, with the overarching goal of contributing to the achievement of Zero Hunger in Nigeria.
Project Coordinator, Mr. Charles Folayan, added that the Green Money Project focuses on five key pillars: data development, capacity building, resource support, mentorship, and market access.
Speaking at the launch, FUNAAB Vice Chancellor, Professor Olushola Kehinde, expressed gratitude to the Presidency for selecting the university as a strategic partner in this initiative. He hailed the Green Money Project as a timely intervention that would significantly boost FUNAAB’s capacity in agricultural production and value chain development.
