The Lifelong Impact and Welfare Foundation has empowered 2,000 teenage girls in Lagos through its Empower Her 3.0 initiative, held in celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
According to a statement on Thursday, the event took place at Gbagada Girls Junior Secondary School, Bariga, featuring interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene, self-care, leadership, and resilience.
The foundation explained that the initiative is designed to equip young girls with essential life skills while promoting self worth and confidence among adolescents.
Speaking at the event, the founder and convener of Empower Her, Jenny Ukpai, expressed appreciation for the programme’s remarkable growth since its inception in 2023.
When I started this initiative, the goal was to reach 100 to 200 girls. Two years later, we’ve impacted over 2,000. It’s more than I ever imagined, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who continues to believe in this vision. Ukpai reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to nurturing purpose-driven and confident young women across Nigeria.
“Empower Her is not just an event, it’s a movement of love, confidence, and purpose. And we’re only just beginning. The keynote speaker, Mrs. Olukemi Ogunsakin, Corporate Communications Manager at Rite Foods Limited, encouraged the girls to embrace discipline, self awareness, and self-worth as tools for achieving their dreams. When a girl understands her value and learns to care for herself physically, emotionally, and mentally, she becomes unstoppable. Empower Her is such a powerful initiative because it teaches that strength begins with self value,” she said.
Ogunsakin also reaffirmed Rite Foods’ continued support for youth focused programmes that help build future leaders. A highlight of the event was a student debate on the topic ‘Social Media: A Tool for Empowerment or Distraction for the Girl Child
