Globacom’s CSR branch, the Glo Foundation, joined forces with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to honor street sweepers. The event took place at LAWMA’s Ijora Olopa office. Hundreds of sweepers from across Lagos gathered for a memorable celebration. Additionally, the event featured lively games, raffle draws, and enticing prizes, all offered by Globacom.
A Day of Celebration and Gratitude
The organizers celebrated the sweepers’ hard work in keeping Lagos clean. Moreover, Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of the Glo Foundation, stressed the importance of recognizing these everyday heroes. She noted that the sweepers face hazards daily and deserve sincere thanks for their contributions. Furthermore, she expressed deep gratitude on behalf of Globacom.


LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, also praised the initiative. He described the sweepers as essential to maintaining public health and environmental safety. Consequently, the celebration helped to highlight the value of community service and CSR in Lagos.

Empowering Sweepers Through Skill Development
In addition to the celebration, the Glo Foundation launched an empowerment initiative. This program offers comprehensive skill training to sweepers. The initiative includes:
- Fashion Skills: Fashion design, jewelry making, fabric embellishment, and beading.
- Baking Skills: Basic cake decoration, pastry making (both fried and baked), and bread making.
- Digital Skills: Digital marketing, social media management, and e-commerce training.
Therefore, the program aims to provide the sweepers with new economic opportunities and social mobility.
Heartfelt Reactions and Exciting Giveaways
During the festivities, sweepers took part in a lucky dip contest. Moreover, many winners received valuable household and professional items. For example, several sweepers walked away with sewing machines, inverter microwave ovens, and grinding machines.

One winner, Madam Dorcas Adeniji from Oshodi, danced with joy after winning a grinding machine. Likewise, Mrs. Adewusi Bisola from Alakuko received an inverter microwave oven, which filled her friends with cheers. Additionally, The Sadatu celebrated obtaining a sewing machine.
The event ended on a joyful note, as sweepers expressed their sincere thanks. They appreciated the recognition and support from Globacom and LAWMA. Ultimately, the celebration showcased the impact of well-executed corporate social responsibility. Moreover, the empowerment program offers a promising future for community members.
