In commemoration of Global Recycling Day 2025, Green Janitors Sustainable Initiative has called on Nigerians to adopt a robust recycling culture as a key strategy in combating climate change and ensuring a cleaner, safer environment.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Abdulsalam Ashade, Founder and Executive Director of Green Janitors, emphasized the role of waste recycling in promoting environmental conservation and advancing the circular economy.
“As part of the circular economy, recycling helps conserve our precious resources and reduce pollution. By reusing materials instead of extracting new ones, we prevent waste buildup and protect our environment,” Ashade stated.
Ashade highlighted the importance of recyclable materials—known as the Seventh Resource—which already contribute to saving over 700 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, a number projected to hit 1 billion tons by 2030.

“This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a crucial step in our fight to protect the planet for future generations. Every recycled bottle, repurposed piece of paper, and diverted plastic waste brings us closer to a more sustainable world.”
The Green Janitors executive director stressed the urgency of addressing climate change, pointing out that the last decade has been the hottest on record. He warned about the alarming consequences of rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, wildfires, and deforestation.
“If we fail to act swiftly and decisively, the consequences will be catastrophic. We are at a turning point, and recycling is one of the most effective tools we have to combat environmental degradation.”
Ashade urged Nigerians to view waste not as something disposable but as a valuable resource that can be preserved, repurposed, and restored. He commended individuals and organizations championing the recycling movement, describing them as frontline warriors in the battle for a greener planet.
“At Green Janitors, we are proud to be part of this global movement, driving change and making a lasting impact. To all our recycling champions, your dedication gives us hope for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.”
As Nigeria and the world mark Global Recycling Day 2025, Green Janitors Sustainable Initiative remains committed to advocating for waste recycling as a vital solution in tackling climate change, reducing pollution, and securing the future of our planet.
