Guinness Nigeria Plc, yesterday, commissioned 1.1km road in Oregbeni, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the community.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Adebayo Alli, said the completion of the Guinness Way represents more than just the construction of a road as it embodies their enduring dedication to creating positive change in the communities they serve.
He said with every kilometre paved, Guinness has forged a path toward greater connectivity, accessibility and opportunity for the residents of Oregbeni and the public in general.
Mr. Alli added that the road, formerly known as Iyoha Road, represents the second phase of a project initiated a decade ago.
He explained that the road stands as a symbol of the organisation’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure within its host communities, and that beyond its physical presence, the Guinness Way serves a vital purpose in mitigating the impact of severe erosion and ensuring safe passage for both pedestrians and vehicles in the Oregbeni community.
The Corporate Relations Director, Mr. Rotimi Odusola, commended the people of the host community for providing the company a conducive environment for it to thrive.
He noted that the company, in return, has provided scholarships to the indigenous people of the community, adding that beside the scholarships, it has provided job opportunities for the people of the host community.
On her part, the Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Mrs. Isoken Omo, said the company has done well by constructing the road, but appealed to them to construct the bridge ahead of it and link it to the nearby community.
She said all over the world, corporate organisations have always helped the governments to provide social amenities to the citizens because the government alone cannot do all.
Mrs. Isoken assured the company of the state government’s support in order to succeed.
Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Osayande, appealed to the company to help its host communities with transformers and help tackle the issue of erosion ravaging the community.
