In a bid to enhance educational infrastructure and foster bilateral relations, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos in collaboration with the Lekki Free Zone Development Company, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the China-Nigeria Friendship School-ICT Center at Akodo Senior Secondary School, Lekki.

The China-Nigeria Friendship School-ICT Center is to provide state-of-the-art facilities and resources to students and teachers in the community in enhancing their educational opportunities and preparing them for the digital age.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Mr. Dei Shunfa, said the project will strengthen the relationship between China and Nigeria.
Shunfa said: “The act of turning the soil today marks the beginning of our significant new endeavor, that will forge strong ties and pave the way for future development and achievements.
“This event represents the coming together of various stakeholders to embark on a journey that will shape the landscape and leave a lasting impact on the Akodo community.
“This project symbolizes our unwavering commitment to giving back to the community through our corporate social investment initiatives. I would like to emphasize that this is truly an investment rather than simply a donation or charitable act.
“The ICT center established is a long term project that will be utilized and benefits the community for years to come, as it is an investment for the students future, as it will empower them with crucial ICT skills and will shape the trajectory of their lives.
“As we commence the groundbreaking ceremony today, let us do so with a shared sense of purpose and excitement for the opportunities this information communication center will unlock for the community.”
Also speaking, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, noted that the project represents the Chinese government’s social responsibility.
Ms. Yan Yuqing said: “This is a significant moment worth celebrating, this project represents the social responsibility of the Chinese government and Chinese enterprises and yet another testament to our sincere cooperation with the Lagos State Government and local authorities.
“This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, over half a century, the people of our two nations have demonstrated genuine friendship through practical actions.
“Through this project, we hope to nurture more Nigerian talents with a global perspective and innovative capabilities, providing a continuous source of energy for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
“At the completion of this ICT Center, it will not only enhance the school’s infrastructure but also serve as a vivid example of our governments’ joint commitment to social responsibility and the well-being of the people, as many Chinese enterprises and institutions operating in Nigeria have not only pursued their own growth but also have actively integrated into and given back to society, showing great enthusiasm for public welfare, driving local economic development and social progress.”
In his remarks, the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun said: “ICT is about the future, and here we are witnessing the collaborative and partnership from those that valve education.
“This project will go a long way in facilitating access to information for our students and also encourage learning in the school, it will also encourage capacity building for our teachers to have access to information on time and enable our students to compete vividly with others in the global village.”
Also, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem said: “It is with great pleasure that I stand before you today as we record another milestone on the platform of a progressive and highly impactful Nigeria-China friendship.
“The knowledge of ICT in this era of exploding digitization and fast growing artificial intelligence, AI, cannot be downplayed by any standards. This ICT center will no doubt play a great role in providing training in digital skills and obtaining a variety of other technology related services by both the students and teachers alike.
“It will facilitate knowledge by providing interactive and engaging learning experiences, enabling access to vast information and resources.”
