The Jigawa State Government has unveiled a new empowerment initiative set to benefit 2,000 residents across the state, with a special focus on youths, women, and persons with disabilities.
The programme, implemented in partnership with 9JaFoodFiesta and the Office of the First Lady, offers free training in information and communication technology, culinary arts, fashion design, and agriculture, with emphasis on fishery and poultry farming. Beneficiaries will also acquire entrepreneurial and business financing skills to help them start and sustain small businesses.
According to state officials, the scheme was designed to eliminate financial barriers and guarantee equal access to opportunities for vulnerable groups. By providing hands-on training at no cost, the government aims to promote self-reliance and nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of driving grassroots economic growth.
This initiative builds on Jigawa’s series of empowerment efforts in recent years. In 2024, more than 12,000 rural women received financial grants under the J-CARES Women Economic Empowerment Programme, while persons with disabilities and vulnerable farmers were supported with targeted funding and agricultural inputs.
With the launch of this latest programme, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to human capital development and to strengthening small businesses as engines of inclusive growth.
