In a bold step toward addressing the long-standing almajiri crisis in northern Nigeria, Nutriment Investment Hub has launched the “Almajiri Let’s Farm” initiative, a transformative program aimed at training and equipping 10,000 almajiri youths with modern farming techniques.
Unveiling the initiative on February 27, 2025 in Kaduna, Mr. Dauda Oche, Group Head of Nutriment Investment Hub, emphasized that the program is designed to provide alternative livelihoods for almajiri youths, who make up 70% of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
The initiative seeks to shift the narrative of almajiri children, often seen roaming the streets in dire conditions, toward productive and dignified means of sustenance. Stakeholders across northern Nigeria have lauded the program, acknowledging its potential to tackle poverty, prevent exploitation, and curb radicalization.
Csr Reporters reports, the almajiri system—originally established to provide Islamic education—has, over time, been marred by neglect, extreme poverty, and systemic abuse, leaving thousands of children vulnerable to hardship and societal exclusion.

The “Almajiri Let’s Farm” program will initially train 100 almajiri youths in the pilot phase before expanding to reach 10,000 beneficiaries. The training, set to last 90 days, will cover:
Precision agriculture
Sack farming and gardening
Poultry production
Soap making
In collaboration with Kaduna Polytechnic, Nutriment Investment Hub has secured land for agricultural training and will provide additional resources to ensure the program’s success.
Speaking at the launch, Oche reiterated that the initiative aligns with Nutriment Investment Hub’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals, aimed at reducing poverty and promoting food security.
“We believe that almajiri youths have dignity, talent, and intelligence. Our goal is to collaborate with stakeholders to equip them with sustainable livelihoods,” Oche said.
Beyond agriculture, future phases of the program will establish vocational training centers focusing on artificial intelligence, technology, and additional skill-building initiatives.
Nutriment Investment Hub, a sister company to Nutriment Feeds, Nutriment Holdings, and Farmhouse Hub, remains committed to eradicating food insecurity and fostering economic empowerment in Nigeria.
