Prof. Toyin Falola of the University of Texas, US, has donated about 500 books in different fields to the Kaduna State University (KASU).
The Texas-based Professor of African Studies, while presenting the books on Wednesday said the gesture was his way of supporting the school in achieving academic excellence.
Falola, who was represented by the university’s Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, Prof. Hauwa’u Yusuf, restated his dedication to partnering with KASU to promote research and academic excellence.
Malam Hussaini Dikko, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, appreciated the Falola for the contribution which he expressed as “a commendable way” of giving back to society.
He encouraged good use of the books to boost the relationship between the Professor and the university and encourage other scholars in the diaspora to take a cue from the gesture.
The Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, also appreciated Falola for the support, promising a strengthened relationship for the improvement of the institution.
Dr Joshua Magoi, the Acting Librarian of the university, disclosed that this is the second of such gesture from Falola to the institution’s library.
Magoi noted that a corner of the library had been set aside for Falola’s books and publications.
Falola, a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, is one of Africa’s reputable historians, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
