Over 1,000 entrepreneurs converged in Lagos last weekend, with hundreds more participating virtually, for a landmark edition of the Lagos SME Bootcamp an annual initiative designed to equip small business owners with the skills, insights, and tools needed to thrive in Nigeria’s dynamic economic landscape.
The event tackled some of the most pressing challenges facing small enterprises today, including access to funding, intellectual property protection, digital marketing, and brand visibility in increasingly competitive markets. Organisers emphasized that while SMEs contribute nearly half of Nigeria’s GDP and provide the majority of jobs, many still struggle with financing, legal safeguards, and customer acquisition.
Throughout the day, industry experts led interactive sessions on business fundamentals, growth strategies, and market adaptation. Legal specialists highlighted the importance of protecting business ideas, trademarks, and creative content, stressing that neglecting intellectual property can lead to significant revenue losses. Meanwhile, marketing and branding sessions guided entrepreneurs on crafting authentic stories, connecting with their audience, and leveraging digital platforms to foster trust and loyalty.
A standout feature of the bootcamp was the Founder’s Spotlight, where seasoned business leaders shared firsthand insights on navigating regulatory challenges, achieving product market fit, and scaling operations without losing customer focus. Sessions on sustainable business models, innovative leadership, and resilience offered attendees actionable strategies to grow and remain competitive amidst market uncertainties.
The event also celebrated entrepreneurial talent through a marketplace showcasing over 75 small businesses and a pitch competition that awarded grants to three promising ventures, helping them accelerate their growth.
Since its inception, the Lagos SME Bootcamp has supported thousands of entrepreneurs, providing mentorship, practical training, and networking opportunities that strengthen operations, expand market reach, and foster resilient, sustainable businesses across Nigeria
