The Lagos State Government has awarded nearly ₦75 million in grants to innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs through the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC), reaffirming its commitment to building a knowledge-driven economy.
The grants, spread across Research and Development (R&D), Innovation, and STEM Education, aim to support transformative ideas that can strengthen Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s foremost technology and innovation hub.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to create a modern, inclusive, and resilient economy powered by creativity and knowledge.
Since its inception, LASRIC has funded groundbreaking projects spanning health, education, fintech, climate change, mobility, culture, circular economy, and quantum computing—demonstrating Lagos’ growing global relevance in innovation.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake, stressed that entrepreneurship and research are central to the state’s development strategy, while LASRIC Chairman, Prof. Olumiyiwa Odusanya, pledged continued support to innovators shaping the future.
Beneficiaries of the latest funding—ranging from academics to start-up founders—expressed gratitude and pledged to deploy the grants toward delivering impactful solutions that will benefit Lagos residents and contribute to Nigeria’s economic advancement.
This intervention highlights Lagos State’s CSR-driven vision of empowering entrepreneurs, creating jobs, and fostering sustainable innovation for long-term growth.
