The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a default notice and an intention-to-seal order to Atlantic Blue Hotel in Lekki Phase 1 for failing to comply with Lagos State’s waste management regulations.
Non-Compliance with Waste Management Guidelines
In a statement, LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegbesin, revealed that the hotel failed to engage its assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) operator for proper waste collection and disposal, a direct violation of the state’s waste management policies.
“For the avoidance of doubt, LAWMA will continue to enforce waste management laws aimed at maintaining a clean and sustainable environment across Lagos State,” Dr. Gbadegbesin emphasized.
LAWMA’s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
LAWMA reiterated the critical importance of businesses and residents partnering with authorized PSP operators, as mandated by Lagos State’s waste management guidelines. These collaborations ensure:
- Responsible waste collection and disposal in line with global environmental standards.
- A cleaner and more sustainable Lagos for residents and businesses.
The agency warned that non-compliance disrupts waste management systems, posing serious risks to both public health and the environment.
Call for Immediate Compliance
LAWMA has urged Atlantic Blue Hotel and other non-compliant establishments to immediately regularize their waste management practices. Failure to comply may result in severe sanctions, including the sealing of premises.
Dr. Gbadegbesin stated:
“LAWMA remains resolute in its mission to achieve a cleaner, healthier Lagos and will not hesitate to enforce compliance.”
Reminder for Lagos Businesses and Residents
The Lagos Waste Management Authority reminded all establishments to:
- Engage authorized PSP operators for proper waste management.
- Settle waste management bills promptly to ensure uninterrupted service.
This enforcement action highlights LAWMA’s unwavering dedication to maintaining environmental sustainability and protecting public health in Lagos State.
