This comprehensive document showcases the company’s substantial strides in environmental and social impact initiatives over the past two years, aligning with its mission to serve customers and communities responsibly while delivering exceptional value.
The newly released report spotlights Lidl US’s ‘Lidl for a Better Tomorrow’ Sustainability/CSR strategy, which underpins the company’s dedication to making a positive difference. Joel Rampoldt, CEO of Lidl US, expressed enthusiasm about this milestone, stating, “Our team at Lidl is devoted to fostering a meaningful impact in our operations and the communities we serve. Our strategy is designed to address environmental and social issues crucial to our team members, communities, and valued stakeholders – both today and in the future.”
Focusing on three core themes – Good for our Planet, Good for People, and Good for You – the report outlines Lidl’s notable progress across six key areas: Protecting Climate, Respecting Biodiversity, Conserving Resources, Acting Fairly, Promoting Health, and Engaging in Dialogue.

Good for Our Planet:
Achieving a remarkable 63% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2022 (compared to a 2019 baseline) towards the company’s ambitious target of a 70% reduction by 2030.
Transitioning to 100% renewable energy since 2022 for the company’s overall electricity use through the purchase of renewable energy certificates (excluding supply agreements beyond Lidl’s control).
Good for People:
Donating over 3 million pounds of food to Feeding America through consistent contributions from Lidl stores and regional distribution centers spanning 2021 and 2022.
Providing more than 1 million hours of training to elevate and empower Lidl US team members since 2021.
Good for You:
Identifying 11 critical raw materials and committing to establishing responsible sourcing targets for each group, instituting third-party certification requirements for all private label palm oil, chocolate, and fish and shellfish items. For instance, all Lidl private label chocolate is Fairtrade certified.
Launching an annual CSR Purchasing Training requirement for Lidl’s Buying Team to enhance awareness on climate, raw materials, and product packaging matters.
