A Benin-based non-governmental organization, Life Boat Initiative for Societal Development, has enrolled two students for the 2023 West Africa Examination Council’s (WAEC) exams.
The two students enrolled are from Uwelu Senior Secondary School, Uwelu quarters, Benin city.
The enrollment scholarship which was presented by Executive Director of Life Boat Initiative, Mr. Osarobo Ogbevoen to the students, he said: “the award is a flagship aimed at rendering financial assistance to deserving students of both primary and secondary schools in Edo State.
Mr. Ogbevoen who was represented by the Programme Manager of the organization, Dr. Isaac Eranga, CPM, said the students were chosen after considering several parameters such as academic performance, punctuality, neatness, and financial challenge.
“This is in line with our vision of making life meaningful for Nigerians.
According to him, Life Boat Initiative for Societal Development was established to inspire and nurture peace, love, friendship, good health, and sustainable living through advocacy, training, and empowerment.
“We also promote peace through peace education, articles in newspapers, establishing peace clubs in secondary schools and organizing trainings in conflict resolution, reconciliation and mediation. We want to use this medium to urge all other NGOs to borrow a leaf from Life Boat Initiative in embarking on projects that will make life more meaningful for Nigerians”, he said
In his remark, the Principal of the school, Mr Omere Victor thanked Life Boat Initiative for the humanitarian gesture.
He used the medium to call on all other non-governmental organizations to emulate Life Boat Initiative in bringing succour to Nigerian students.
Also speaking, the Vice-Principal, Mrs Ihimi Rosemary urged the scholarship recipients to see the award as a motivation to put more efforts in their studies, especially as they prepare for the WAEC exams.
She said though their hard work earned them the scholarship, they still need to work harder. “I’m happy to be part of this historical event. May the good Lord reward Life Boat Initiative for remembering Nigeria students”, Mrs. Ihimi said.
The recipients, Courage Queen Onome and Samuel Gods power thanked Life Boat Inititive and said the scholarship will propel them to put more effort in their studies and promised to sustain the confidence reposed on them.
“We were not expecting it; it came like a dream. If this is how things play out, we will henceforth, put more effort to our studies and remain peace loving students”, they said.
