A transparent and accountable electoral system is the foundation of sustainable governance. Mandate4 is taking a bold step to make this a reality in Nigeria. The non-governmental organization has launched the #FixINEC #FixNigeria advocacy resource hub to empower citizens, activists, and policymakers with the tools to push for urgent reforms in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mandate4.org highlighted the far-reaching impact of Nigeria’s electoral system on sustainable development, stating:
“Nigeria’s broken electoral system has had devastating consequences on governance and quality of life. Without credible elections, incompetent leaders remain in power, leading to rising unemployment, economic hardship, failing infrastructure, and deteriorating education and healthcare systems.”
The #FixINEC #FixNigeria hub serves as a knowledge and advocacy center, equipping Nigerians to demand the full implementation of electoral reform recommendations. This includes those outlined in the Justice Uwais Report. The platform also pushes for greater transparency in election processes, which is critical for ensuring that leaders prioritize sustainable policies that benefit all citizens.

A credible electoral system is not just about democracy. It is about sustainable national development. Corrupt and ineffective leadership leads to policies that hinder progress in critical areas such as:
Social Sustainability – tax Fair elections promote inclusive governance, social justice, and equal opportunities for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or socio-economic status.
Economic Sustainability – Good governance fosters economic growth by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and ensuring effective management of national resources.
Environmental Sustainability – Transparent leadership is key to enforcing environmental policies that combat climate change, deforestation, and pollution, ensuring a greener future for generations to come.
Speaking on the importance of electoral integrity, Mandate4.org Founder, Century Favour, emphasized:
“The state of our elections determines the state of our leadership, and the state of our leadership shapes the future of our nation. Fixing INEC is not just about elections—it’s about securing a sustainable future for Nigeria.”
Through this initiative, Mandate4.org is not only advocating for free and fair elections but also championing a governance system that prioritizes social equity, economic stability, and environmental responsibility—the key pillars of a truly sustainable nation.
