The Nigeria Youth in Parliament Forum has unveiled an ambitious plan to equip over one million, one hundred thousand young Nigerians with critical digital and electric vehicle (EV) skills through its nationwide Take Action campaign. The initiative, offered at no cost to participants, aims to empower the country’s youth to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
At a media briefing in Abuja, the Forum’s Director General, Tony Nwulu, emphasized that Nigeria is at a pivotal moment in youth development. With a rapidly growing young population, the country faces urgent challenges in youth employment, underemployment, and skills gaps. The Take Action campaign seeks to address these issues by providing structured, large-scale skills development aligned with international standards.
The programme focuses on two key areas: information and communications technology (ICT) and electric vehicle technology and maintenance. Both sectors are fast-growing globally and offer opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic participation. By targeting these fields, the forum aims to prepare young Nigerians for careers in the digital economy, remote work, and emerging technology driven industries
Inclusivity and scalability are central to the initiative. The forum has urged state governments, through their ministries of youth affairs, to mobilize participants, ensuring that all states and geopolitical zones benefit equitably. “These targets are ambitious but necessary,” Nwulu said, highlighting the scale of youth unemployment and the need for nationwide intervention.
The ICT training component will expose participants to in demand digital skills, equipping them to participate in the global digital economy. Meanwhile, the EV programme addresses the growing green economy, preparing youth to engage with sustainable transportation and technology-driven energy solutions.
The forum’s initiative goes beyond individual skills development. By fostering employability, supporting small business growth, and enabling youth to contribute actively to emerging sectors, the programme embodies principles of social responsibility, sustainable development, and inclusive economic growth.
The Take Action campaign demonstrates how youth focused interventions can bridge the gap between education and employment while positioning Nigeria’s next generation to compete globally. It represents a tangible commitment to building a future-ready workforce and supporting the country’s broader socio-economic transformation.
