
Nigerian Breweries Plc has donated a 2-ton-per-day cassava processing facility to the Awo-Omamma community in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to sustainable community development.
The facility, which was officially handed over to the community, is designed to support local cassava farmers, boost agro-processing activities, and stimulate economic growth within the area. It will enable the processing of cassava into value-added products, reduce post-harvest losses, and create employment opportunities for youths and women.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, representatives of Nigerian Breweries said the project was the outcome of extensive engagement with community stakeholders to identify priority needs. According to the company, the initiative aligns with its sustainability agenda focused on economic empowerment, food security, and inclusive growth.
“The cassava processing facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for enterprise development in Awo-Omamma. It will improve livelihoods, enhance productivity, and strengthen the local agricultural value chain,” the company stated.
Community leaders expressed appreciation to Nigerian Breweries for the intervention, describing the facility as timely and impactful. They noted that the project would help reposition Awo-Omamma as a hub for cassava processing and agribusiness, while also providing a steady sources of income for residents.
Government officials present at the event commended Nigerian Breweries for complementing the state’s efforts at promoting agriculture-led development and rural industrialisation.
The cassava processing plant is projected to generate significant economic benefits for the community through job creation, skills development, and increased revenue from agricultural processing, reinforcing the role of private sector participation in grassroots development.
