Nigus International, Elmirate Capital Sign $200 Million Deal to Develop Defense Technology and Create more Jobs in Nigeria
Nigus International Investment Limited and Elmirate Investment LLC (Elmirate Capital) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a next-generation defense technology, satellite systems, and advanced manufacturing platform in Nigeria, backed by a planned investment of up to $200 million.
The partnership signals a major step in positioning Nigeria as an emerging hub for defense technology, aerospace innovation, and industrial manufacturing in Africa.
Speaking on the collaboration, Malik Ado-Ibrahim, Executive Chairman of Nigus International, described the initiative as a strategic response to Africa’s evolving technological and security landscape.
“Africa is entering a pivotal phase where technological capability will increasingly define economic strength and national security. Our objective is to build a sustainable industrial base in Nigeria that supports innovation, advanced manufacturing, and meaningful technology transfer.”
Similarly, Pankajj Ghode, Managing Director of Elmirate Capital, reaffirmed investor confidence in Nigeria’s long-term potential.
“Our planned commitment of up to $200 million reflects strong confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential. By connecting global defense, cybersecurity, and aerospace expertise with local capabilities, we aim to build a resilient ecosystem that drives industrial growth and strengthens regional stability.”
Nigeria Advances Toward Sovereign Defense Capabilities
The collaboration will be executed through a newly established Special Purpose Vehicle, Nigus Tactical Systems Ltd, which will serve as the central platform for investment, technology integration, and operational development.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader ambition to strengthen domestic defense production, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance national security infrastructure.
The project will operate under the regulatory oversight of the Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), in line with the provisions of the DICON Act 2023, ensuring compliance with national defense and industrial policies.
Building an Integrated Defense and Space Ecosystem
At the core of the partnership is the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities to support modern security systems and infrastructure.
Key focus areas include:
- Development of Class C local defense manufacturing platforms to boost domestic production
- Deployment of tactical drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for surveillance and operations
- Integration of ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) technologies to enhance situational awareness
- Expansion of counter-terrorism surveillance and intelligence systems
The manufacturing component will also cover:
- Production of ammunition and munitions
- Development of armored vehicles and protected mobility systems
- Deployment of advanced monitoring and intelligence platforms for border and national security
These capabilities are expected to significantly strengthen Nigeria’s defense self-reliance and operational readiness.
Expanding into Cyber Defense and Satellite Technology
Beyond traditional defense manufacturing, the partnership will extend into cybersecurity and digital defense infrastructure.
Planned initiatives include:
- Development of military cyber defense systems
- Establishment of cyber ranges for training and testing
- Strengthening resilience against emerging cyber threats
A major pillar of the project is the integration of satellite and space-based technologies, including:
- Earth observation systems
- Secure communication networks
- Geospatial intelligence platforms
These capabilities are expected to support both military operations and civilian applications, positioning Nigeria as a leader in space technology and satellite infrastructure in Africa.
Positioning Nigeria as a Regional Technology Hub
By combining international expertise with local capacity, the Nigus–Elmirate partnership aims to create a fully integrated defense, aerospace, and technology ecosystem in Nigeria.
The initiative is expected to:
- Drive industrial growth and job creation
- Strengthen national and regional security systems
- Accelerate technology transfer and innovation
- Position Nigeria as a regional hub for defense and space technology in Africa
As global security dynamics evolve, investments of this scale highlight Nigeria’s growing role in shaping the future of defense technology and advanced manufacturing on the continent.
