NNPC and Shell Enhance Education with New ICT Centre in Bauchi State

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), through their Joint Venture (JV) partnership, have reaffirmed their dedication to sustainable development projects in Nigeria. This commitment was highlighted during the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre at Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG).

The commissioning ceremony, held at BASUG in Gadau, Bauchi State, showcased the JV’s focus on corporate social responsibility. Mr. Bala Wunti, NNPC Limited’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer (CUIO), represented by Mr. Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services, NUIMS, emphasized that the NNPC-SPDC JV’s CSR initiatives have consistently aimed to positively impact Nigerian communities.

Wunti noted that the JV has been investing in significant CSR projects nationwide for decades. The newly inaugurated ICT centre at BASUG exemplifies NNPC Ltd.’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development, improving access to quality education, and fostering innovation in Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude to the local community for their support and hospitality, crucial to the project’s success.

Wunti called for continued support from the Bauchi and Gombe State governments, traditional institutions, and host communities, particularly towards the Kolmani Integrated Development Project. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development goals.

Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director of SPDC and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, highlighted the commissioning as a pivotal social investment project by the JV in North-East Nigeria. He reiterated Shell’s commitment to contributing to the socio-economic development of Nigerian communities through impactful projects.

The commissioning of the ICT centre at BASUG marks a significant milestone in NNPC and Shell’s efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and promote technological advancement in Nigeria. This project is a testament to their unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
