In a bold move to enhance road transport safety across Nigeria, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at improving accident investigation, prevention, and emergency response.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed on Wednesday in Abuja, as announced by NSIB spokesperson Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NSIB Director-General Capt. Alex Badeh described the collaboration as a crucial part of expanding safety efforts across all modes of transportation—including road, air, rail, and maritime.
“By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to strengthen accident investigations and enforcement, ensuring more effective prevention of future incidents,” Badeh said.
He commended the FRSC for its advancements in road safety enforcement, emphasizing that the partnership would help generate more data-driven safety recommendations and update protocols to meet new challenges.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed echoed this sentiment, stating that safety goes beyond aviation and must extend to all transport sectors.
“Our goal is to make Nigeria’s entire transport environment safer—from roads to railways,” he said. “This partnership will strengthen our ability to protect lives and promote a coordinated safety strategy.”
Key components of the MoU include:
- Standardised investigation protocols
- Enhanced real-time response to incidents
- Greater accountability in safety enforcement
While the NSIB brings technical expertise in accident investigations, the FRSC offers operational strength in road safety enforcement. Together, they aim to create a proactive and unified transport safety culture in Nigeria.
