The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has distributed relief materials to flood victims in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
The relief materials was distributed by the Head, NUPRC Eket Office, Mr Etukudoh Williams on Tuesday said that the properties destroyed during the period worth millions of naira.
Williams said that the commission’s Chief Executive and the management, Mr Gbenga Komolafe had approved a token for all the flood-impacted communities, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the relief materials included: Mattresses, groundnut oil, blankets and rice, among others.
He listed the beneficiary local government areas as Eket, Eastern Obolo, Mbo, Ibeno, Ikot Abasi and Nsit Ibom.
“As we are all aware, the past few months have been difficult for many in the flood-affected communities. There have been mixed feelings, despair and uncertainty in the minds of the flood victims, especially during yuletide when we were all celebrating in our homes with our families.
“Many have been dislodged in various parts of the country as well as in our communities here in Akwa Ibom, property and means of livelihood had been destroyed due to the ravaging impact of the flood,” Williams said.
He explained that the relief materials would also help to put smiles on the faces of the people in difficult times.
The Head NUPRC, thanked the Federal Government, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and organised private sector for the support and assistance to the communities.
“Even though we have realised that more still needs to be done to ameliorate the suffering of the victims,” Williams added.
