To boost agricultural productivity and tackle rural hunger, One Acre Fund Nigeria has launched a major support program for farmers in Nasarawa State. The initiative, which targets 16,000 small holder farmers, aims to increase crop yields during and after the 2025 rainy season.
Improving Rural Livelihoods Through Agricultural Support
During the flag-off in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, the NGO’s Field Operations Lead, Emmanuel Bamgboye, highlighted the significance of the distribution. According to him, the program not only enhances food production but also promotes financial stability among rural farmers.
“We are supporting farmers with improved seeds, fertilisers, herbicides, and pesticides—at highly subsidised prices,” Bamgboye stated.
He added that the distributed items are being offered as affordable credit, allowing beneficiaries to repay over an eight-month period. Farmers pay only 12% upfront, while the remaining 88% is spread over the following months.

- Lafia
Bamgboye also noted that the Credit Programme extends beyond Nasarawa. Across Niger, Kwara, and Nasarawa States, over 94,000 farmers will benefit in 2025. In addition, the NGO will distribute 12.5 million tree seedlings to at least 461,700 farmers as part of its climate-smart agriculture strategy.
Government Commends the Initiative
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Umar Tanko-Tunga—represented by Umar Nuhu, praised the empowerment effort. He reaffirmed the state government’s support for organizations working to address food insecurity and combat climate change through reforestation.
Similarly, Yusuf Mada, Deputy Chairman of the Nasarawa Eggon LGA, thanked the NGO for selecting the area as the pilot location. He advised beneficiaries not to resell the inputs but to use them to improve their agricultural output.
Farmers Applaud Timely Intervention
Sarkin Noma Eggon, Danjuma Usman-Dogo, speaking on behalf of the farmers, appreciated the gesture. He said the inputs arrived at the perfect time, ensuring farmers can maximize yields during the 2025 farming season.
