In a bid to tackle Nigeria’s food security challenges, One Acre Fund, a leading nonprofit organization, has announced plans to host a National Stakeholders Dialogue on Food Security on March 20 in Abuja.
Adetola Adegbite, Country Director of One Acre Fund Nigeria, made the announcement in a statement, emphasizing the urgent need for collaborative solutions to enhance agricultural resilience and productivity.
Themed “Achieving Food Security in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap,” the dialogue will bring together key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector leaders, development partners, and civil society organizations. Discussions will center on innovative policies, strategic investments, and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s food landscape.
Adegbite highlighted the critical role of smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of the nation’s food system. However, he noted that systemic challenges such as climate change, limited access to quality inputs, weak extension services, market barriers, and financial constraints continue to hinder their productivity.
“The National Stakeholders Dialogue presents a unique opportunity to foster real change by driving policy innovations, increasing investment in agriculture, and strengthening partnerships,” Adegbite stated.
The event will feature two high-impact panel discussions, including:
“State of the Nation – Challenges of Food Security and Climate Change in Nigeria”, where experts will assess the country’s food security landscape, climate adaptation strategies, and urgent policy gaps.
One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering smallholder farmers across rural sub-Saharan Africa by providing access to agricultural resources, financing, and training. Their mission is to equip farmers with the tools needed to increase food production, build resilience, and achieve long-term prosperity.
As Nigeria grapples with rising food insecurity and climate-induced agricultural risks, this national dialogue is expected to drive actionable solutions and strengthen the country’s food system for a more sustainable future.
