
In a groundbreaking initiative to support higher education in Nigeria, OPay, a leading financial services provider, has launched a ₦60 million scholarship programme for students at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). This initiative underscores OPay’s commitment to youth empowerment, education, and financial inclusion.
The announcement was made by OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Itoro Udo, during a courtesy visit to UNILORIN’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, FCIML.
Scholarship Details: Financial Relief for UNILORIN Students
According to a statement on UNILORIN’s official website, the OPay Scholarship Programme aims to ease the financial burden many students face in pursuing higher education.
- 20 undergraduate students will benefit each year.
- Each student will receive ₦300,000 per academic session.
- The programme will run for 10 years, ensuring sustained support.
This scholarship is part of OPay’s larger ₦1.2 billion nationwide education project, benefiting 20 institutions across Nigeria.

Beyond financial aid, the OPay Scholarship Initiative seeks to enhance students’ career prospects. The company plans to introduce mentorship, employability training, and internship opportunities for scholars.
During the visit, Udo also confirmed plans for a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, to finalize execution strategies for the programme.
