Oyo State is actively pursuing a special grant from the non-governmental organization Water Aid International to revitalize its struggling water sector. The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, made this announcement during a courtesy visit to the management of Nigerian Breweries Ltd. in Ibadan, as stated in a Sunday release.
Adeojo highlighted the corporation’s intention to partner with WaterAid Nigeria, emphasizing that this collaboration aims to provide residents of the state with access to a reliable supply of potable water. The sought-after grant is intended to address water scarcity, inadequate sanitation facilities, and promote sustainable hygiene practices in communities facing such challenges.
The Chairman expressed that the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens would make the state eligible for a 100 Thousand Euros grant from Water Aid International. He clarified that the fund would be allocated to water sanitation, hygiene, and the extension of water pipelines, specifically for projects located in African countries.
“As a response to the government’s call to action for support to its water sector, Water Aid Nigeria, in collaboration with our corporation, is championing a cause for potable water in our dear state,” Adeojo stated, emphasizing the significance of the grant in addressing critical water-related issues.
Acknowledging that water provision is a substantial investment without significant financial returns, Adeojo emphasized that it is a social responsibility of the government. He appealed to the management of Nigerian Brewery to support the Corporation in securing the grant.
In response, the Brewery Manager, Mr. Seun Akinwale, commended the leadership qualities of the Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and pledged ongoing collaboration with the Corporation to ensure the provision of adequate water to the inhabitants of the State.
