As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio, Premiere Academy, Abuja has hosted the 2024 edition of its Annual Technology Fair, an inter-school technology contest and innovation exhibition that offers budding information technology stars in the Federal Capital Territory a platform to showcase their skills and outputs.
The School, in a media release, noted that the Tech Fair is designed to contribute to the full realization of Article Four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which centres on Quality Education.
It further stated that the project seeks to concretize the importance of inculcating modern technology trends into present day education to enhance sustainable growth.A major highlight of the Fair whose theme was “Developing One Young Mind at a Time”, was the inter-school technology contest where Claret International School Abuja emerged the winner while Lakeside School Abuja and NAFOWA School secured second and third place respectively.
The contest allowed participating students to showcase their talents and problem-solving skills in a series of technology-related challenges, ranging from coding challenges to robotics competitions and hands-on engagements in many areas of information technology.
Other notable segments of the hybrid event include seminar, exhibition and networking.
In a keynote address at the event, Special Guest and expert in IP Solutions, Data Science and Tech Strategy, who is also a Harvard Business School and MIT alumnus, Dr. Oluyemi Akinyinka, described technology skills harnessing as a catalyst for national innovation development and progress.
According to him, helping pupils to develop a strong foundation in technology from an early age is an important role of education in empowering young minds to harness the power of technology for positive societal changes and sustainable development, “From AI to data science, the possibilities for personal and societal rejuvenation are endless. It is therefore left to us to inspire the next generation of innovators so as to unlock their full potential”, he enthused.
In his closing remarks, Premiere Academy’s Director of Academics and Administration, Mr. Chris Akinsowon, reminded participants of the profound impact which education can have on shaping the future by nurturing young minds and fostering their passion for innovation.
He also urged the pupils to always consider the broader implications of their actions and cultivate a culture of responsibility and ethics in their use of technology, adding that with great power comes great responsibility.
To round off the event, participants, led by students of Premiere Academy, the host school, exhibited various personal and group Robotics and Coding projects to the applause of parents and the many adult guests in attendance.
