SBI General Insurance, a leading General Insurance Company in India, is proud to announce its collaboration with Missing Link Trust on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project dedicated to creating local employment and enhancing the livelihoods of families in the Kultali region of Sundarbans, West Bengal. Under this CSR project, SBI General aims to empower women and enable them to earn a livelihood.
In the face of economic hardship, cyclones, and the lasting impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sundarbans witness a significant erosion of livelihoods, intensifying the challenges faced by its residents. In response to this, SBI General Insurance has partnered with Missing Link Trust to launch a transformative project focused on empowering women in the region.
Under the CSR initiative, SBI General Insurance will establish training centers for women and facilitate the procurement and installation of 25 state-of-the-art sewing machines, along with other essential equipment. Women will be skilled and trained in tailoring and stitching bags and other cloth objects. Additionally, they will be connected with the market to sell bags profitably. The project’s objective is to empower women by providing them with the necessary tools to earn a sustainable livelihood through stitching.
Speaking about this partnership, Mr. Kishore Kumar Poludasu, MD & CEO, SBI General Insurance said, “Through this collaboration with Missing Link Trust, we aspire to contribute to the economic upliftment of women in Sundarbans. By providing them with skills and resources, we aim to not only create employment opportunities but also to address the broader issues of poverty, exploitation, and gender-based violence in the region. We are confident that this initiative will lead to financial independence and inclusive growth of communities at large in the Kultali region of Sundarbans.”
Leena Kejriwal, Founder Missing Link Trust, said “This partnership with SBI General Insurance will help us make a deeper and more sustained impact on the economic empowerment of the women of this region. Our skill training centers have been providing a safe haven to the women other than giving them skill sets, now with this capacity building with SBI General Insurance we will be able to reach out to markets and provide them with job work setting them on a steady path of economic empowerment. We hope to replicate this model in more vulnerable pockets to truly transform the area”.
ToThe project represents a significant step towards fostering sustainable development and positive change in Sundarbans. SBI General Insurance is honoured to be part of this initiative, working towards a future where women in Kultali can thrive, and communities can break free from the cycle of adversity.
