In a move set to bring renewed joy and opportunity to technical education, the Schneider Electric Foundation has donated advanced vocational training equipment to three Lagos State technical colleges. The initiative is expected to significantly improve hands-on learning and open more doors for student enrollment and career readiness.
Through the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), students at Government Technical College Agidingbi, Ikotun, and Ikorodu received customised didactic benches including domestic wiring and industrial motor starter units mirroring real-world systems used in the energy and industrial sectors.
The foundation noted that this effort is part of Schneider Electric’s broader goal to train 1 million youths globally by 2025, with a strong focus on West Africa. The company’s vision is to better prepare young people for in demand roles in the electrical and engineering fields.
Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Moronke Azeez, praised the donation, saying it goes far beyond equipment.
This act of generosity has brought new excitement to our schools. Schneider Electric also provided a two-week intensive training for 17 instructors, giving them the skills and confidence to teach practical, industry relevant content, she said.
The donation is already inspiring increased interest from prospective students, as the modern equipment gives colleges a competitive edge and makes learning more engaging.
Funmilayo Olakitan, Schneider Electric Foundation’s Delegate for West Africa, said the goal is to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
“We want to bring the industry into the classroom. When students work with tools used in real life situations, they gain both competence and confidence,” she said.
Instructors also benefited from a “train the trainer” programme led by Schneider Electric engineers, ensuring they can fully maximise the new equipment. The company also pledged ongoing support through refresher courses.
With this donation, Schneider Electric is not just equipping schools it is empowering futures and turning classrooms into launchpads for skilled careers, bringing greater joy, pride, and purpose to technical education in Lagos.
