In a commendable display of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that resonates deeply with the community, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), under the leadership of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has embarked on a transformative initiative to repair deplorable roads in Bendel Estate, Effurun, Delta State.
Reports say, the roads were littered with deep craters and big potholes, particularly at a spot by the NNPC Junior Staff Club, as they became nightmares to residents and visitors.
The main road leading to the Estate, from Avweniyeri Filling Station junction down to the terminal point has been tarred just as the adjoining roads were not left out as it is visible that motorists now drive smoothly on the road without any hindrance.
Motorists and residents of the area are now in celebration mood, showering praises on the board and management of TSSNL, especially its chairman, Tompolo.
A Keke NAPEP operator in Bendel Estate, Mr. Ezekiel Akpofure, talked about how it has become easy for him and his colleagues to operate in Bendel Estate after the repairs.
“We are happy and joyful that Tompolo has come to our aid. We have been suffering over the years, spending all our earnings on the repairs of our Keke. Our appeals to the former Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Mr. Ramson Onoyake, when he was in office, fell on deaf ears. Mr. Onoyake merely did some shoddy work at one point but Tompolo has come to rescue us.
“We now operate on smooth and well tarred roads in Bendel Estate. We can now save some money we used to expend regularly on the repairs of our Keke. We are happy and grateful to Chief Tompolo,” Akpofure said in excitement.
Another Keke NAPEP operator in the Estate, Seidu Abdullahi, who hails from Kano State, was also excited in an interview with some Journalists.
Abdullahi said: “Initially, we thought the roads were being repaired by the Government because we didn’t see anything to suggest that a private individual or company could be responsible. We only got to know that Chief Tompolo asked his company to do this (repairs of roads) for us in Bendel Estate, after so many enquiries.”
This proactive move by TSSNL reflects a renewed commitment to community relations and underscores the significant impact businesses can have beyond their core operations.
The decision to fix these roads not only addresses a longstanding infrastructure challenge but also demonstrates a partnership with local authorities to enhance the living conditions of residents. This initiative, aimed at complementing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s development agenda, highlights the pivotal role private enterprises can play in supporting government efforts and improving community welfare.
What is particularly noteworthy about TSSNL’s approach is the genuine appreciation it has garnered from the residents of Bendel Estate. Rather than a mere token gesture, the repairs have alleviated the daily struggles of commuters and residents who previously endured impassable roads. Such tangible improvements not only enhance mobility but also uplift the overall quality of life, fostering a sense of pride and gratitude among the beneficiaries.
The testimonies from local residents, such as Keke NAPEP operators Ezekiel Akpofure and Seidu Abdullahi, are a testament to the meaningful impact of TSSNL’s CSR efforts. Their expressions of relief and gratitude underscore the transformative power of corporate initiatives that genuinely respond to community needs. Akpofure’s statement about saving money previously spent on vehicle repairs due to road conditions illustrates the direct economic benefits that stem from responsible corporate interventions.
In conclusion, TSSNL’s initiative sets a compelling example for other corporations, emphasizing that effective CSR goes beyond obligatory donations or sponsorships—it entails proactive engagement that earns genuine appreciation from the communities served. By investing in infrastructure and directly improving quality of life, businesses like TSSNL not only fulfill their social obligations but also strengthen their relationships with stakeholders. This approach not only contributes to sustainable development but also sets a benchmark for ethical corporate citizenship in Nigeria and beyond.
