The Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Tony Elumelu, has undertaken a high level tour across East, Central, and Southern Africa, strengthening strategic partnerships with governments and private-sector leaders to accelerate the continent’s economic growth.
During the tour, Elumelu, who also chairs Heirs Holdings, engaged with the Presidents of Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), and Rwanda. The visits underscored UBA’s commitment to supporting national development agendas, expanding investment opportunities, and driving sustainable economic transformation across Africa.
In Kenya, Elumelu led UBA’s delegation to the State House in Nairobi, meeting President William Ruto to discuss collaboration in infrastructure, energy, and economic empowerment. President Ruto praised UBA’s $150 million contribution to the $1 billion Road Infrastructure Securitisation Programme, highlighting the bank’s role in boosting regional trade and development.
In Zambia, discussions with President Hakainde Hichilema focused on energy, food security, and entrepreneurship. Elumelu highlighted the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s impact, noting that over 350 Zambian entrepreneurs have received $5,000 seed funding each, creating more than 16,000 jobs. UBA also committed to supporting Zambia’s national energy expansion plans through Heirs Holdings and Transcorp Power.
In Mozambique, Elumelu met President Daniel Chapo in Maputo, exploring strategic investments in energy, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure. In Congo Brazzaville, discussions with President Denis Sassou-Nguesso centred on UBA’s regional expansion, including plans for a new headquarters serving as the Central African hub.
The tour further included closed door meetings in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), reinforcing UBA’s mission as Africa’s Global Bank” and its dedication to financial inclusion, trade expansion, and sustainable development.
Through strategic investments and the transformative work of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, UBA continues to champion innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive prosperity across Africa.
