The Managing Director/CEO of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Jeff Duru, has been formally inducted as an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) at the Institute’s 2025 Stream II induction ceremony held in Lagos.
The event welcomed 1,242 new members into the ranks of Chartered Bankers and Microfinance Certified Professionals, under the theme “The Smart Banker’s Compass: Innovate, Adapt, and Solve Like a Pro.” It was celebrated as a milestone in professional excellence and resilience within Nigeria’s financial sector.
Delivering his address, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, President/Chairman of Council, CIBN, commended the inductees for their discipline and perseverance in meeting the rigorous standards of the profession. He urged them to embrace innovation not just as technology, but as a mindset that fosters trust, sustainable practices, and long-term impact in Nigeria’s financial system.
Speaking on his induction, Dr. Duru described the honour as both a personal achievement and a societal responsibility.
“I am delighted to be inducted as an Associate of the CIBN. This milestone enriches my journey as a financial professional. With my PhD in Finance, PhD in Business Administration with concentration in Insurance, Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), and now Associate membership of CIBN, I can say I am better positioned as a complete financial expert. The programme’s robust syllabus in finance and risk management has broadened my horizon, equipping me to contribute more meaningfully to the growth of Nigeria’s financial and insurance ecosystem,” he said.
Dr. Duru emphasised that professional milestones such as this extend beyond personal accolades, serving as a platform to drive innovation, strengthen financial literacy, and expand access to inclusive financial solutions that uplift society.
