Following the tearful joy and high expectation that greeted the declaration of Abia state election results in favour of Labour Party governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti; the Governor-Elect has affirmed his covenant with the people of Abia to discharge his duty with utmost despatch, sincerity of purpose and efficiency.
He made this known at the 62nd Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Umuahia Archdiocese on Saturday March 25, 2023.
Alex Otti, who attributed his victory at the polls to God said “this whole exercise was put together and delivered by God Almighty. Let us not make the mistake of appropriating the glory to ourselves. We didn’t have security, we didn’t have anything but God who gave us everything”.
The Governor-Elect, emotionally recalled his miraculous escape from the assassins’ guns that came after his life in 2015 when he contested for the same seat.
He acknowledged the fact that the work before him is herculean, but expressed that “this is the time to rebuild Abia”, charging the church with the task of moral recalibration, he admonished the church leaders to “rebuild the church” and buy back souls sold out to the devil.
The charge is in consonance with the earlier request made by the keynote speaker, former Minister, Dr Uche Ogah who requested for more prayers for Dr. Alex Otti, to enable him deliver because, according to him, “we are not dealing with human beings’ but principalities and powers in high places.
Otti further submitted ” I’m offering myself as the sacrificial lamb, I’m not the leader, I’m just here to serve. Everyone of us have something to offer. We must work to make Abia great.” Swinging a reassuring glance from the pulpit to congregation, he declared “You will not be disappointed”.
Earlier, the presiding Archbishop of Umuahia Methodist Church Nigeria Archdiocese, His Grace, Dr. Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, reminded the governor-elect of trust surplus Abians invested in him and warned ” if Alex did not do what God ask him to do, I will lead a campaign against him”.
The Reverend Archbishop whose birthday was been celebrated cautioned him to be weary of Godfatherism “In this State, you have Stakeholders and even Religious stakeholders, that system must STOP! Choose people who will fear God as your commissioners, as Chief of Staff, protocol and your entire team”.
The highlights of the include; special recognition awards to distinguished Nigerians such as Iman Abdullahi Abubakar for saving christians from jihadists’ swords in the north; the INEC State Returning Officer for 2023 Governorship election, Prof. Nnennaya Oti, for character, principle, virtue, honesty and honour, and others.
He gave Dr. Alex Otti a Plaque of Remembrance and pleaded that it should not be regarded as violation against Dr. Alex Otti’s principle of non-acceptance of awards until after his tenure of office.
