The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has commenced its 2023 Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) Empowerment Programme, aptly named “Season of Joy,” urging Nigerians to extend a helping hand to the less privileged during this festive season. The call for support came during the launch event held in Abuja, where the church demonstrated its commitment to uplifting the needy.
During the launch, the church showcased its dedication by distributing grinding machines to 23 widows, providing educational grants totaling N640,000, and distributing essential food items to 150 widows. Assistant Pastor Gabriel Adewuyi, speaking at the event, emphasized the significance of assisting the less privileged as a fundamental biblical mandate, highlighting the blessings that come to those who support others in need.
Adewuyi stated, “As we gather to celebrate in December, it’s essential to remember the biblical directive to care for the less privileged. We aim to provide resources that empower them to become self-reliant, breaking free from dependency.”
Assistant Pastor and Coordinator of CSR, Sunday Adebomi, highlighted the prevalence of poverty and job scarcity in the country as the driving force behind the initiative. He stressed that the church meticulously selected beneficiaries genuinely in need of support to enhance their socio-economic well-being.
“We identified the prevalent poverty in our society and the urgent need for empowerment. Our selection process targeted individuals within 23 zones who genuinely require these resources to improve their livelihoods,” explained Adebomi.
Chairman of the CSR Empowerment Programme, Kayode John, echoed the sentiment, expressing a desire for expanded impact. “Our goal is to touch more lives. We’ve just begun, and we believe that with God’s provision, we can exceed our current outreach,” he affirmed.
Esther Adewuyi, Pastor and Women Coordinator, highlighted that the food assistance given to widowed women aimed to provide encouragement and joy during the festive season. Beneficiary Ruth Pius expressed gratitude, noting that the support received, especially for her daughter’s school fees, would significantly alleviate their financial burden.
The RCCG’s “Season of Joy” initiative exemplifies the crucial role of social responsibility in positively impacting the lives of the less privileged in society.
