The Integrated Dairies Limited (IDL), a dairy/fresh milk production company in Plateau State has donated items to widows.
This donation is to alleviate their plight and the widows who received these items are from Vom community in Vwang District of Jos South local government area of the state.
Some of the widows in the community expressed their excitement and also revealed that the IDL has been consistent with their donations with food/household items.
According to them, they were also encouraged by the motivation given to them by IDL officials on how to live happily, bear their situation with a positive and lively mindset, engage in agric activities and trade, and how generally keep their home as widows.
The event which took Place at the palace of the traditional ruler in the district witnessed the convergence of widows from across the district.
Among the items distributed to the widows included soya oil, seasoning, other soup items, flour, etc
The outreach is part of the organization’s Widows Initiative in parts of the state, as well as their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Counseling the widows at the event, IDL official, Engineer Zaka called on them to endeavor to do whatever they found to do, like farming or agricultural activities trading, or any menial job they can do.
He said keeping themselves engaged will keep them going and at least assist them to take care of some of their little needs until outside help comes from kind-hearted people, groups and well meaning organizations.
In her remarks, Veronica Ukonu who presented the items to the widows on behalf of the organization enjoined them to remain hopeful, united among themselves and be well organized through their association so that such assistance and other interventions can be properly channelled to them.
She said among the other interventions/outreaches or social welfare by the organization, the Widows Intervention is very vital because the loss of a husband is not emotionally easy, and through life as a widow left alone to fend for the family is not equally easy.
Responding on behalf of the widows, the Secretary of International Widows Association Vwang District, Nvou Daniel Gyang, said the organization has never forgotten them and has often been reaching out to them
She said widows usually have enormous needs to be met, but that even though all their needs cannot be met, such gestures by IDL do assist in cushioning the effect of their hardship..
She called on her colleagues not to sell any food or household item distributed to them because it is made for their children/household, and those who come to donate to them would not be pleased seeing those items in the market put up for sale or been sold out.
Gyang urged the organization not to relent in their outreach to thern, saying that as they continue to remember them, God will continue to uplift the company and its operations.
Recalled that IDL also recently constructed a borehole for Chiri Community of Ganawuri District in Riyom local government area of Plateau State. And prior to that, the organization trained farmers from different communities in the state on dairy business development and strategic cattle breeding plan in order to generally develop the dairy sector.
