As part of its efforts to combat food insecurity and empower local farmers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Foundation has trained over 500 vulnerable farmers in Akwa Ibom State on modern agricultural practices and market access strategies.
The training, which took place in Uyo on Thursday, is part of the NNPC Ltd Agricultural Training Initiative for Vulnerable Farmers. It reflects the Foundation’s strong commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda aimed at enhancing food security, increasing productivity, and uplifting the livelihoods of small holder farmers.
Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, represented by Dr. Bala David, Executive Director of Programme Development and Coordinator, noted that the initiative is one of several impactful programmes designed to align with Nigeria’s national development goals.
“As the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd, the Foundation is committed to initiatives that not only strengthen the agricultural sector but also create lasting socio-economic impact across the country,” Arukwe said.
According to her, the NNPC Foundation plans to train 6,000 farmers nationwide, providing them with essential tools, knowledge, and techniques to transition from subsistence farming to commercial-scale production.
In Akwa Ibom, farmers from all 31 Local Government Areas participated in the training, which focused on modern farming techniques, value addition, and improved market access, critical elements needed to scale up food production and sustainability.
This initiative underscores NNPC Foundation’s role in driving community development through inclusive agricultural support, as part of its broader corporate social responsibility strategy.
