Dangote Cement Plc has deepened its commitment to education and community development by extending its scholarship scheme to 51 communities in the Oworo District of Kogi State.
At the award ceremony held in Obajana, the Plant Director, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, explained that the initiative, though originally designed for host communities, was expanded to ensure that more young people across Oworo benefit from quality education. He noted that beyond scholarships, Dangote Cement is also providing boreholes to five communities, easing access to clean water and improving the quality of life.
“This programme is not just about financial assistance,” he said. “It is about empowering families, nurturing future leaders, and creating a pathway for inclusive growth in our communities.”
The General Manager of Social Performance, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, disclosed that 50 students—26 female and 24 male were carefully selected with the support of community leaders, and each awardee will continue to benefit until graduation, provided they sustain good academic standing.
Community leaders and government representatives hailed the initiative as a turning point for Oworo, noting that it relieves parents of financial burdens while inspiring students to excel. “Education remains the strongest foundation for development. Dangote Cement’s gesture has renewed hope in our households,” said the Olu of Apata, Oba Federick Balogun.
For many parents, the scholarships represent more than support it is an investment in a stronger future for Kogi, where today’s students can become tomorrow’s doctors, engineers, innovators, and leaders.
